Aranjuez

Visiting Andrew’s cousin Beth and her partner Diego in Aranjuez was a huge highlight of our time in Spain (and the trip as a whole!). The hospitality and generosity they showed us was overwhelming.

Riding through the olive groves as the sunset over Aranjuez was simply amazing and was one of those moments we’ll never forget. I didn’t take my camera on the horse for fear of dropping it or falling off while trying to take pictures but here are some I took before our ride.Countryside around Aranjuez Beth and her gorgeous horse.NagalHorseIsn’t he beautiful?!HorseStablesHorseHorsesBeth on her horseSome lovely Spanish countryside.Spanish countrysideThe bull bar in town.Bull barDiego’s solution to no carparks being available in town…mount the curb and put on your hazard lights! Ten minutes before people started arriving Diego told Beth there would be 14 people for a sit down dinner. I would freak! But the hostess with the mostest managed to find enough chairs, make the table look fabulous and together with Diego put on an absolute feast.
Beth the hostessWhat a fantastic way to end our time in Spain. We’re looking forward to seeing Beth back in Australia in December too!

Granada

Wow! Granada was just amazing. We adored this lovely little place in the south of Spain.

Oliva

Our next stop was in Oliva, a little beachside town just south of Valencia. Sadly it rained most of the time we were there so I didn’t take many photos. But the beaches are lovely and our Air BnB host was one of the sweetest people we’ve ever met even though we speak no Spanish and she spoke about 5 words of English. Warmth can definitely be communicated without language! Here’s a picture of her awesome cat Jaguar to commemorate our time in Oliva.

San Sebastian

Hello Spain!!

We were so excited to arrive at the beach and to explore San Sebastian as our first stop in Spain. Arriving and trying to order food we quickly realised how much French we knew in comparison with Spanish. The beautiful blue water and the mountains were gorgeous and we quickly fell in love with this place…I’m sure you can see why 🙂San Sebastian beachSoaking up the sun…Soaking up the sunAccordion playerOne of the lovely streets in the old part of town.IMG_8553It’s a good place to just sit and watch the world go by.Watching life go byLots of steps but the view is worth it!IMG_8555IMG_8574IMG_8580Ocean and rocksIMG_8611Kirsty in San SebPlease click on this panorama to view a bigger version – it makes it better I promise!San SebIMG_8681IMG_8686IMG_8538San Sebastian shadowsNow THAT’S a busy beach! Sarlat-la-Caneda

During our stay in Domme we did a trip to Sarlat which I absolutely adored last time I visited. By the number of visitors that afternoon I can see that it is adored by many! It’s a gorgeous place with lots little back streets to explore.IMG_8121IMG_8085IMG_8113IMG_8105It’s the home of foie gras so there are geese everywhere.

Le Grand Bourg

After travelling hard for the last 3 months it was such a blessing to have the opportunity to stay put at my sister’s house in the south of France. It was so relaxing to spend a couple of weeks in the countryside. We were also lucky enough to be there during the annual festival which saw the whole town come to life! Needless to say I took LOTS of photos in the time we were there so this is just a small selection of our time in Le Grand Bourg.Le Grand BourgLeGrandBourg FeteThe outside of Brom’s cute little house.Outside the houseRue Saint RochLe Grand BourgI spent many hours in this sunny little corner reading books and drinking tea 🙂LeGrandBourgSome of the back streets.Backstreets of Le Grand BourgSunrise…such beautiful light at this time.Le Grand Bourg SunriseSunrise over cropsCrossWe took so many walks down lovely little lanes like this, exploring the countryside. Winding Country RoadButterfly on flowersSunset in townOur visit to nearby La Souterraine coincided with their brocante.La SouterraineLa SouterraineMarketProduceBack roadsSucculentsAnother nearby town, Benevant l’Abbaye.BenevantBenevantTime for Tea in Le Grand Bourg, a gorgeous little English style tea and cake shop.Time for TeaAnd the resident dog, Pongo, with her stone (she always carries one – isn’t that cute!).PuppySouthern France farmAren’t they gorgeous!Inquisitive cowsFarmingBarn & TractorCow close upField of flowersTime for the festival!!Festival flagsA stall at Le Grand Bourg brocante.BrocanteMusicians in the parade.ParadeMusiciansBeautiful Bolivian dancers.
