Our second day in Zion National Park was amazing…
We did the Angel’s Landing hike which is quite a strenuous hike but so worth it. For the last part of the hike you have to hang on to chains to keep you balanced.

A nice little chipmunk we saw at the end of the hike who had become quite crafty at snatching food from unsuspecting hikers.

We made it to the top…

…and the view was definitely worth it! (click for a larger version of this one)

Then it was time to hit the open road again. The sky seems so big in the desert.

This was our camp spot for the night. Andrew can really work wonders on a camp stove! No-one in sight and deers walking by which was amazing but it was freezing cold at 7000 ft.

Zion Part One
Next on the road trip was Zion National Park.
It is so stunning and unlike anywhere I’ve seen before. We did a 3 hour hike the first afternoon we arrived. The sun came out just as we reached the peak which was wonderful as the colours were all so much more vibrant. We had a lovely campground for the night right next to a stream…and an RV with a labrador ๐
The Beautiful Yosemite National Park
Road Trippin’
And so the time came to say goodbye to San Francisco and hello to the open road! We picked up our campervan and began the drive towards Yosemite National Park. Passing through fields and mountains, it felt good to be on the open road beginning the next part of our adventure.
A panorama for you of the road to Yosemite.
If you click the photo you’ll get a larger version which I can always recommend for panoramas ๐

Alcatraz
While planning our trip, I kept reading that Alcatraz was a must see while in San Francisco. I wasn’t sure prior to going if it would live up to the hype but I’m happy to report that it did!ย As everyone will tell you, GO EARLY. We went on the first boat of the day on a weekday and it was packed out by the time we were half way through the tour.ย There are gorgeous views of San Fran on the boat trip over and the island itself has beautiful gardens and great views of the bay. The audio guide is very well done and provides fascinating insight into the history of the jail. If you’re in the area definitely make the time to visit!
